Resident Camp

Discover Nature. Discover Friendships. Discover Adventures.

Since 1926 NCCS Camp Newaygo has been a place of powerful, positive, life-changing discoveries for young girls and women 7-17. Making new friends, learning new skills and developing self-confidence are all just a part of this camping tradition. We foster exploration, creativity and cooperation among individuals and communities in the natural environment.

Our campers return from their Camp Newaygo experience more focused, more confident, committed to defining their lives more clearly and dedicated to building strong relationships.

NCCS Camp Newaygo is all that a camp should be - teaching activities like swimming, archery, canoeing, plus the options to explore special skill areas like high ropes and horseback riding.

And here’s the coolest part - our campers get to choose their own schedules. We encourage them to work on special skills development, but if they just want to join an activity to relax with their friends, that’s OK, too.

If you like spending time in the outdoors, enjoying the sun, having fun on the water and making lifelong friendships, you’re invited to discover NCCS Camp Newaygo!

Cabin Life
Through cabin and unit living, campers learn to share and live cooperatively as a group while forming new friendships. Living with campers and counselors from across the United States and around the world helps girls accept individual differences while building a deep sense of group belonging.
Girls, starting at the age of seven and continuing until they enter the sixth grade, live in screened cabins with campers of similar age and grade. These cabins are centrally located in Main Camp, close to bathrooms and Lang Lodge.

Older girls live in units located further from Main Camp. Unit living offers new challenges for campers. Younger teens stay in the two-story Rangers unit or in Tinuwen’s screened "tree houses". Older teens stay in two outpost tent units: Wakonda and Pioneers. All unit campers choose and plan at least one out-of-camp trip during their stay. Past excursions have included trips to Pictured Rocks, North and South Manitou Islands, and the Pere Marquette River.
*Some trips may have an additional fee

Mini Camp (Session I) - 7 Year Olds Through 8th Grade Only
This shorter session is perfect for girls just getting started at “overnight camp.” Programming will be tailored specifically to elementary and middle school kids. Campers will have a chance to sample three new activities each day as well as getting a taste of the fabulous all camp evening programs. There is so much to do, including swimming, boating and cooking over an open fire with their cabin mates, while having a wonderful time laughing and living at NCCS Camp Newaygo, your home away from home. There is no overnight campout component this session.

Session II
During this seven day session campers are able to build their skill and feel a sense of achievement choosing three activities to specialize in all session long. The choices are amazing! Enjoy the hilarity of the awesome evening programs with all the girls in camp. Experience a taste of outdoor adventure with each cabin (girls below seventh grade) having a campout on camp property, which may include a trip to camp’s own island, and each unit (7-11th graders) heading out for a backpacking, canoeing or tubing trip off site. We will be offering Science Camp for 3rd and 4th graders again during this session. Many girls build friendships that last a lifetime.

Session IIIA, IIIB, & III
This is NCCS Camp Newaygo’s most versatile session! You may choose to come for one or both weeks of this session. This is an ideal session for those two week campers who want to attend with a friend who is only able to come for one week. Campers who stay for two weeks will have the opportunity to experience a greater variety of activities or pursue some activities longer for a real sense of accomplishment. You will experience two of the outdoor adventure overnights or trips! Campers who attend the second week (Session IIIB) will be a part of the July torch campfire tradition that honors our outstanding campers at the end of Session III. For campers attending Session IIIB, bring your red and green as we will be celebrating Christmas in July Camp Newaygo style!

Holdover
For some campers, two weeks of NCCS Camp Newaygo is just not enough! For those who want to attend three or four weeks of camp, you can attend Session III (both weeks) or Session IIIB (the second week) and Session IV. The holdover option allows you to do that, without having to travel home. During holdover, everyone spends a day at Lake Michigan relaxing, preparing for the next two weeks. You may do laundry at this time (available only to campers selecting the holdover option).

Session IV
Join this group of girls who come to NCCS Camp Newaygo for the full two week session. Living together for two weeks sharing decisions, taking on challenges, making compromises and soaking in triumphs, while coming to know and accept each other. The friends you will make at camp are like no other friends you have in your life. In addition to the extended opportunities for choosing and pursuing activities, cabins will go on two camp-outs and older units will take longer outings, such as backpacking on North or South Manitou Island. This continuous session provides more opportunities for camp cookouts and renowned all camp evening programs than any other session! You will take part in ceremonies that date back generations, including the Candle Dipping Ceremony, Wishing Boat Ceremony, and the final campfire where the camp torches are lit and the summer Logbook and its honorees are presented.
