 Resident Camp

Discover Nature. Discover Friendships. Discover Adventures.

Imagine the perfect day – you wake up for an early morning swim in the warm waters of Lake Pickerel with your friends and counselors. After breakfast you enjoy your daily classes: fencing on acorn courts, windsurfing across smooth water, and developing photos in the dark room. After dinner you and your cabin run through the woods battling against the other team to capture the flag. At night you sit with your new friends under the stars while your counselor teaches you special camp songs. As you fall asleep your head is full of laughter and your heart is filled with friendship. Sound perfect? It’s just another day at

Camp Newaygo.

Who Their Counselor Will Be
Camp Newaygo Counselors are some of the greatest people on earth. Our counseling staff is well trained, kind, excitable, and they all love working with children.

Where They Bunk
Through cabin and unit living, campers learn to share and live cooperatively as a group while forming new friendships. Living with campers and counselors from across the United States and around the world helps girls accept individual differences while building a deep sense of group belonging.

Girls, (1st-6th grade), live in screened cabins with campers of similar age and grade. These cabins are centrally located in Main Camp, close to bathrooms and Lang Lodge.

Girls (7th-10th grade) live in units located further from Main Camp. Unit living offers new challenges for campers. All unit campers choose and plan at least one out-of-camp trip during their stay. Past excursions have included trips to Pictured Rocks, North and South Manitou Islands, and the Pere Marquette River.
*Some trips may have an additional fee

Mini Camp (Session I and Session IVA)

7 Year Olds through 8th Grade Only
This shorter session is perfect for girls just getting started at “overnight camp.” Mini Camp is tailored specifically to elementary and middle school kids. Girls will chose three different activities each day, letting them see everything Camp Newaygo has to offer. If your daughter has never been away from home before, this is a perfect way to ease your family into summer camp. We have two Mini Camps each summer. We guarantee she will leave with a cabin full of new best friends and beg to come back for a full week next summer.

Session II

Session II is a perfect way to start off your summer. Celebrate July 4th with your Camp Family. This seven day session allows campers to enjoy their three class choices all week long. They can tune their tennis form, celebrate their artistic genius in pottery, and excel in fencing. In the evenings, campers participate in all-camp programs like scavenger hunts, battle of the bands, and marshmallow paint wars. Each cabin (girls below 7th grade) will sleep out in tents on camp property on Tuesday night and each unit (7-11th graders) will head off site for backpacking, paddling, or tubing. These overnights give the girls an experience unlike any other. Cooking over and fire and sleeping under the stars, your daughter will build unique bonds with her Newaygo Sisters. Session II is also includes Science Camp. Girls enrolled in science camp will let their curiosities run wild with Fran Gibbs, from Lincoln Heights Elementary in Greenville, MI. Science Campers will love daily curriculum prepared specifically for Camp Newaygo. Study everything you love about science – OUTSIDE of the classroom. Science campers also enjoy one activity choice, evening programs, and plenty of time to swim in the lake. Science camp helps girls remember that being smart is cool. Start your summer off right with Session II.

Session IIIA, IIIB, & III
This is Camp Newaygo’s most versatile session! You may choose to come for one or both weeks of this session. This is perfect if you want to come to camp with a friend, but they can only stay for one week. Come enjoy Newaygo in the heart of the summer. Sail across Lake Pickerel in the Hobie Cat, relax in the hammock garden, and sleep under a tent. With two weeks at Camp Newaygo, you can master fencing, disc golf, synchronized swimming, and dance! In Session IIIB campers will enjoy the July Torch campfire tradition, where two outstanding campers are honored. And get your stockings ready, because session IIIB is Christmas in July! Get pumped for an entire day of winter-themed fun including caroling snowball fights and enough Christmas Spirit to make the Grinch go mad!

Holdover
For some campers, two weeks of Camp Newaygo is just not enough! For those who want to attend three or four weeks of camp, you can attend Session III (both weeks) or Session IIIB (the second week) and Session IV. The holdover option allows you to do that, without having to travel home. During holdover, everyone spends a day at Lake Michigan relaxing, preparing for the next two weeks. You may do laundry at this time (available only to campers selecting the holdover option).

Session IV
When Camp Newaygo Alumni look back on their best memories of summer, they think about Session IV. Somewhere between outdoor cooking experiments and listening to the rain fall on your tent, lasting friendships are built. All girls attending Session IV will stay for two weeks. During that time Wakonda (girls entering (9th and 10th grade) and Pioneers (Girls entering 11th grade) will head to the Manitou Islands for the backpacking adventure of a lifetime. Girls in younger units will also enjoy trips down the Pere Marquette or the Muskegon River. You will take part in ceremonies that date back generations, including the Candle Dipping Ceremony, Wishing Boat Ceremony, and the final campfire where the camp torches are lit and the summer Logbook and its honorees are presented. If you’re looking for two weeks of camp packed with unbelievable evening programs, unique traditions, wild campouts, and unforgettable friendships – then Session IV is for you!
